WHEREAS, April 30, 2005, marks the 30th Anniversary of the Vietnamese Diaspora; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is home to a thriving community of over 44,907 Vietnamese Americans, making the Commonwealth one of the top five population centers for Vietnamese Americans in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans contribute to the economy of the Commonwealth with over 4,144 firms that generate $317 million in sales and receipts; and

WHEREAS, over 40 percent of Vietnamese Americans own their own homes and the median annual income is $46,929; and

WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans fought alongside Virginians for freedom and democracy, ideals embodied in "sic semper tyrannis"; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Vietnamese-American community of Virginia be recognized following the 30th anniversary of the fall of Saigon and the Republic of South Vietnam [ ; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to the Vietnamese-American community of Virginia requesting that a representative from this community further disseminate copies of this resolution to their respective constituents so that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia in this matter ] .
