058359348WHEREAS, it is important for young citizens of Virginia to understand and be engaged in the governmental and political processes; and
WHEREAS, providing young people with information about government and politics helps them to be aware of their effects on their lives and helps them to be better citizens as they grow; and
WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the Commonwealth to encourage young people to become involved in government and politics in order to keep our democracy strong; and
WHEREAS, when involved in the political process, young people help raise awareness of issues that affect the youth community of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, it is essential that young people understand the importance of voting and that they be aware of the impact each citizen has on the workings of our government; and
WHEREAS, youth who are aware of the importance of government and politics grow up to have a positive impact on the Commonwealth and the nation as adult citizens; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate the Tuesday prior to Election Day each year as Youth Political Education Day in Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates post the designation of this day on the General Assembly's website.
