058661500WHEREAS, Dorothy Budge Callahan of McLean, a former executive secretary and bookstore owner and the wife of Delegate Vince Callahan, died on January 5, 2005; and
WHEREAS, a native of North Dakota, Dorothy Budge Callahan moved to Arlington at a young age, graduated from Washington-Lee High School, and attended Madison College (now James Madison University) and George Washington University; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Budge Callahan was an executive secretary for the United States Public Health Service from 1948 to 1960 and was appointed census director for the Washington metropolitan area in 1970; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Budge Callahan was a member of the Virginia State Library Board from 1971 to 1975; and
WHEREAS, from 1971 to 1984, Dorothy Budge Callahan owned and operated McLean Books, and after closing the store worked as an executive secretary for the Kaiser Permanente Health Plan; and
WHEREAS, a member of the Junior League of Northern Virginia, Dorothy Budge Callahan was also a past president of the Greater McLean Republican Women's Club; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Budge Callahan is fondly remembered for her warmth, energy, and friendliness and for her devotion to her family and the Northern Virginia community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a fine Virginian, Dorothy Budge Callahan; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dorothy Budge Callahan as an expression of the esteem in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
