056302268Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 4 of Chapter 7 of Title 18.2 a section numbered 18.2-287.5 as follows:
§ 18.2-287.5. Carrying firearms on Capitol Square.
A. Unless otherwise provided by law, no person who lawfully possesses a firearm shall be prohibited from carrying such firearm on Capitol Square.
For purposes of this section:
"Capitol Square" means the grounds in that area in the City of Richmond bounded by Bank, Governor, Broad, and Ninth Streets, and the interior of the State Capitol and the General Assembly Building.
"Firearm" means a pistol, revolver, or other weapon designed or intended to propel a missile of any kind by action of an explosion of any combustible material.
B. This section shall not be construed to prohibit the lawful possession of a firearm on any other public property where carrying such firearm is not specifically prohibited by law.
