055220316Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 54.1-2910:01 as follows:
§ 54.1-2910:01. Practitioner information provided to patients.
Doctors of medicine, osteopathy, and podiatry shall make available to patients the following information in a written statement in any primary and secondary practice settings:
1. Procedures to access information on the doctor compiled by the Board of Medicine pursuant to § 54.1-2910.1;
2. A list of the doctor's charges for his 20 most commonly performed procedure codes;
3. A list of health insurance plans accepted by the doctor and managed care health insurance plans in which the doctor participates;
4. Notice that if he is not covered by a health insurance plan that the doctor accepts or a managed care health insurance plan in which the doctor participates, the patient may be subject to the doctor's full charge; and
5. A list of the fees charged and the services to which they are attributable if the doctor charges "administrative access fees" for services not covered by a health insurance or managed care health insurance plan. "Administrative access fees" means charges imposed by the doctor in addition to deductibles and co-payments that may be charged to a patient pursuant to a contract with a health insurance or managed care health insurance plan.
