SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Freedom of Information Act; applicability; sexually violent predator commitment review committee. Provides that the records of the Commitment Review Committee involving the commitment of sexually violent predators under Article 1.1 (§ 37.1-70.1 et seq.) of Chapter 2 of Title 37.1 are exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act. The bill further provides that in no case shall records relating to the victims of sexually violent predators be disclosed. The bill also contains an open meeting exemption for the Commitment Review Committee when discussing or considering records excluded by the bill. Currently, the Commitment Review Committee is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act. The bill is a recommendation of the Virginia Freedom of Information Advisory Council.
