HB 623 Pharmacy technicians; registration of those who work in free clinics.

Introduced by: Robert D. Orrock, Sr. | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles | history

SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:

Registration of pharmacy technicians in free clinics. Requires the Board of Pharmacy to waive the initial registration fee and the first examination fee for the Board-approved examination for a pharmacy technician applicant who works as a pharmacy technician exclusively in a free clinic pharmacy. If such applicant fails the examination, he must be responsible for any subsequent fees to retake the examination. A person registered pursuant to this subsection will be issued a limited-use registration. A pharmacy technician with a limited-use registration will be prohibited from performing pharmacy technician tasks in any setting other than a free clinic pharmacy. The Board will also waive renewal fees for such limited-use registrations. A pharmacy technician with a limited-use registration may convert to an unlimited registration by paying the current renewal fee.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Registration of pharmacy technicians in free clinics. Provides that a pharmacy technician who volunteers or otherwise works solely in a free clinic will be registered by the Board upon satisfactorily completing a training program and examination that covers the criteria approved by the Board except those portions of the training program and examination relating to the compounding of drugs to be dispensed and the stocking or loading of automated dispensing devices or other devices used in the dispensing process. No pharmacy technician who has been registered by the Board to volunteer or otherwise work in a free clinic can be employed in any other setting without first satisfactorily completing a training program and examination that includes all of the criteria approved by the Board, including compounding of drugs and the stocking or loading of automated dispensing devices or other devices used in the dispensing process.
