2004 SESSION
047872788WHEREAS, the 2003 Loudoun County High School girls' tennis team became the first Raiders team in any sport to win a state championship; and
WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Raiders won the 2003 Virginia High School League Group AA state tennis championship by defeating three-time defending champion Jamestown High School, 5–4; and
WHEREAS, the Loudoun County Raiders also captured the highly competitive Dulles District title and continued their success by winning the Region II competition; and
WHEREAS, the Raiders were led by three-time individual state champion Blakeley Griffith, but the team championship required team depth, perseverance, and stamina; and
WHEREAS, the Raiders prevailed in an intense and exciting state final match by winning two hard-fought doubles matches, including a contest between each team's top two players that was won in three sets by the Raiders; and
WHEREAS, the Raiders girls' tennis team can take great pride in winning the first state tennis championship in the 49-year history of Loudoun County High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Raiders from Loudoun County High School on their historic victory in the Group AA state tennis championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Randy Hanger in honor of the unprecedented success of the Loudoun County High School girls' tennis team.
