2004 SESSION
WHEREAS, William F. Webb, Jr., who served the citizens of the Town of Leesburg in a variety of leadership positions for 35 years, died on September 3, 2003; and
WHEREAS, a native of Green Springs, William Webb moved to Loudoun County in 1957, became a Leesburg resident in 1961, and by 1963 was a member of the Town Planning Commission; and
WHEREAS, William Webb remained on the Planning Commission for 25 years, then was elected to the Leesburg Town Council in 1990, serving until his retirement in 1998; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure on the Town Council, William Webb served as liaison to the Planning Commission and was vice mayor of Leesburg for his last six years in office; and
WHEREAS, William Webb also served on Leesburg's Board of Architectural Review for 25 years, on the Town's Cable TV Advisory Commission for eight years, and as a Loudoun County election official for more than 10 years; and
WHEREAS, throughout his many years of diligent public service, William Webb built an enviable reputation among his fellow citizens as an honest, straightforward, and thoughtful public servant; and
WHEREAS, following his retirement from Cablevision of Loudoun, William Webb drove a Loudoun County school bus for nearly 15 years, happily transporting students to Loudoun County High School and the Thomas Jefferson High School in Fairfax; and
WHEREAS, William Webb rendered honorable service to the citizens of Leesburg and Loudoun County for more than three decades, providing thoughtful and effective leadership and a willingness to work for the betterment of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of an outstanding Virginian, William F. Webb, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William F. Webb, Jr., as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
