2004 SESSION
WHEREAS, Wayne Griffith, the first principal of Potomac Falls High School in Loudoun County and a veteran of 36 years of service to the public schools of Loudoun County, retired in December 2003; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Griffith grew up in Alexandria and attended Virginia Tech, where he earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics and French and his master's degree in secondary school administration; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Griffith's career with the Loudoun County public schools began in 1968 as a teacher and basketball and golf coach at Broad Run High School, and over the past 36 years he has served with great distinction as teacher, coach, and administrator; and
WHEREAS, in 1976 Wayne Griffith moved to Loudoun Valley High School as assistant principal, then to Douglass School, an alternative high school in Leesburg, as principal a year later; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Griffith returned to Broad Run High School as principal and served there until the opening of Potomac Falls High School in 1996; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Wayne Griffith, Potomac Falls High School has grown from 758 students in 1976 to more than 1,400 today, but Wayne Griffith has met the challenge of knowing and caring about his students on an individual basis; and
WHEREAS, as teacher and administrator, Wayne Griffith has become known for his excellence as a teacher and motivator and for his daily involvement in the lives of his students, both in the classroom and during extracurricular activities; and
WHEREAS, devoted to his students and teachers alike, Wayne Griffith has served as a mentor to his colleagues, and many of his former assistant principals have become principals; and
WHEREAS, as principal for 26 years, Wayne Griffith has had a profound influence on the lives of generations of Loudoun County students, and many of his students, in turn, will have a lasting impact on the Loudoun County community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Wayne Griffith on the completion of an exemplary 36-year career of service to the young people of Loudoun County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Wayne Griffith as an expression of the admiration and gratitude of the General Assembly.
