WHEREAS, Gailya Chambers Johnson, a longtime resident of Chesapeake and a valued community volunteer, died on February 1, 2004; and

WHEREAS, a native of Smyth County, Gailya Johnson was previously self-employed with Johnson-Atwell Prescription Opticians and was a partner in Johnson Optical Company; and

WHEREAS, Gailya Johnson was a devoted and faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Gailya Johnson was a dedicated and active member and volunteer with numerous charitable and community organizations, including the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club; and

WHEREAS, Gailya Johnson will be sorely missed by her loving family, the parishioners of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and her many friends, colleagues, and admirers in the Chesapeake community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, Gailya Chambers Johnson; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gailya Chambers Johnson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
