Commending Wanda Wilt.

WHEREAS, Wanda Wilt worked for more than 41 years for WHSV-TV in Harrisonburg, where she was always willing to do anything to help her neighbors and the people of the community; and

WHEREAS, Wanda Wilt was entirely dedicated to her community, and the many people she influenced and affected provide abundant examples of the appreciation that her community feels for her commitment; and

WHEREAS, Wanda Wilt served as a member of Broadway Town Council from July 1, 1988, to June 30, 1994, and as mayor of the Town of Broadway from July 1, 1994, to January 31, 2004; and

WHEREAS, in this capacity, Wanda Wilt continued to serve her community well, encouraging efforts on behalf of the Town of Broadway to fuel new business and cultivate an entrepreneurial environment while also maintaining the small town atmosphere that so many of the residents of Broadway appreciate; and

WHEREAS, Wanda Wilt's efforts to develop the business atmosphere in Broadway met with great success, as 17 new businesses moved to Broadway over a two-year period; and

WHEREAS, for this success, the Town of Broadway received national recognition from the National Center for Small Communities for its achievements in entrepreneurial development; and

WHEREAS, through her work as mayor, Wanda Wilt secured various state and federal grants, which helped to establish the Broadway Hometown Partnership and the Industrial Development Authority and allowed for the construction of a new maintenance facility, as well as other public works facilities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Wanda Wilt for her service and for her many contributions to the Valley and to the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Wanda Wilt as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation and best wishes.
