Commending Calvin Thomas Eaves, Sr.

WHEREAS, Calvin Thomas Eaves, Sr., of Chesterfield, the founding pastor of Clover Hill Baptist Church, retired on February 1, 2004; and

WHEREAS, a native of Marshall, Texas, Calvin Thomas Eaves was educated at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga and Virginia Commonwealth University; and

WHEREAS, after serving at Three States Baptist Church in Rodessa, Louisiana, Calvin Thomas Eaves became the first pastor of Clover Hill Baptist Church when it was founded in February of 1969; and

WHEREAS, for 35 years, Pastor Eaves has led the parishioners of Clover Hill Baptist Church as the church has grown and prospered; and

WHEREAS, as part of his duties, Pastor Eaves has supervised the church-sponsored Richmond Christian School and the Cloverland Day Care program, which has become one of the largest church-related day care programs in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Pastor Eaves, Clover Hill Baptist Church has sponsored a television ministry for more than 20 years and supports more than 60 domestic and foreign missionaries throughout North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America; and

WHEREAS, through 35 years of growth and change, Clover Hill Baptist Church has made an impact on its Chesterfield community, serving the citizens as a spiritual and community center and prospering under the guiding hand of Pastor Calvin Thomas Eaves; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Calvin Thomas Eaves, Sr., for his many years of outstanding service to Clover Hill Baptist Church and the Chesterfield community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Calvin Thomas Eaves, Sr., as an expression of the appreciation of the General Assembly for his long and invaluable service.
