2004 SESSION
WHEREAS, Cathy Herndon, an art teacher at Walker-Grant Middle School in Fredericksburg, was named Virginia's 2003 Middle School Art Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Art Education Association; and
WHEREAS, Cathy Herndon, the Northern Virginia Middle School Art Teacher of the Year, was selected from among six finalists for the statewide honor; and
WHEREAS, an art and drama graduate of Radford University, Cathy Herndon has been a teacher for 25 years, the last 12 at Walker-Grant Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Cathy Herndon works with some 200 fourth-graders through seventh-graders daily, successfully sharing her love and enthusiasm for artistic expression; and
WHEREAS, an artist herself, Cathy Herndon has seen her work hung in galleries as far away as France; and
WHEREAS, Cathy Herndon promotes her students' art, often hanging it throughout the Fredericksburg community on her own time; and
WHEREAS, Cathy Herndon also supervises an after-school art club and volunteers to teach classes at the Family Life Center; and
WHEREAS, Cathy Herndon's well-earned teaching award recognizes her excellence, creativity, and dedication, which have made her an outstanding teacher and a major influence on the lives of her students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Cathy Herndon on her recognition as one of Virginia's finest art teachers; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Cathy Herndon as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for her ongoing commitment to the education of the young people of Fredericksburg.
