SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 182
Commending Sam Huff.

WHEREAS, Sam Huff of Middleburg, a former college All-American and National Football League All-Pro, has been the "Voice of the Washington Redskins" for 30 years; and

WHEREAS, a native of West Virginia, Sam Huff was an All-State football player at Farmington High School and an unanimous selection as All-American at West Virginia University; and

WHEREAS, during his successful career in the National Football League, Sam Huff was the defensive Rookie of the Year in 1956, the Most Valuable Defensive Player in 1959, and was named to the All-Pro team in five of his eight outstanding seasons with the New York Giants; and

WHEREAS, Sam Huff joined the Washington Redskins in 1964, earned All-Pro honors again, and was for two years a player-coach under the legendary Vince Lombardi; and

WHEREAS, Sam Huff was inducted into the West Virginia State Hall of Fame in 1976, the National Football Foundation's College Hall of Fame in 1980, the National Football League Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in 1982, and the National Federation of High School's All Sports Hall of Fame in 1999; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement from the Washington Redskins, Sam Huff became a popular color analyst for the Washington Redskins radio broadcasts, a position he has held for 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Sam Huff also serves as owner and president of the Middleburg Broadcasting Network, which combines regional radio, television, and live remote broadcasting; and

WHEREAS, Sam Huff founded and still operates the West Virginia Breeders Classics, which for 17 years has staged the richest series of horse races ever staged in West Virginia; and

WHEREAS, successful as a football player on all levels and as a businessman and horse racing promoter, Sam Huff remains best known for his 30 years as the "Voice of the Washington Redskins"; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Sam Huff for his 30 years of exceptional service to Washington Redskins fans throughout the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sam Huff as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and best wishes.
