SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 177
Commending Officer Dennis L. Baines.

WHEREAS, on March 20, 2004, the Woman's Club of Williamsburg will sponsor the Police Officer and Firefighter of the Year Awards; and

WHEREAS, among the honorees is Officer Dennis L. Baines of the Williamsburg Police Department; and

WHEREAS, a 25-year veteran, Officer Baines is cited for his work as Crime Prevention Officer, Project Lifesaver Coordinator, School Resource Officer, and chairman of a community council to assist senior citizens; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his duties as Crime Prevention Officer, which is a full-time position, Officer Baines coordinates Project Lifesaver, which assists families with loved ones suffering the effects of Alzheimer's disease, autism, and brain injuries; and

WHEREAS, Officer Baines is the School Resource Officer for James Blair Middle School, where he has a dramatic and positive impact on school safety, discipline, and student relations; and

WHEREAS, Officer Baines serves as chairman of the Peninsula Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT) Council, where he coordinates all Peninsula law enforcement agencies' efforts to assist the region's senior citizens; and

WHEREAS, a popular and exceptionally dedicated public servant, Officer Baines exemplifies the spirit of community policing; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Officer Dennis L. Baines for his outstanding service to the Williamsburg Police Department; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Officer Dennis L. Baines as an expression of the congratulations and best wishes of the General Assembly.
