Commending Robert C. Claud, Sr.

WHEREAS, Robert C. Claud, Sr., who has served the citizens of the Town of Windsor, Isle of Wight County, and the Hampton Roads region in a variety of roles, has announced his retirement from public service; and

WHEREAS, for 16 years, Robert Claud was a member of the Windsor Town Council, including five years as mayor; and

WHEREAS, Robert Claud provided distinguished service as a member of the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors, including two terms as chairman, and was a leader in the County's success in playing a larger role in regional issues; and

WHEREAS, for more than seven years, Robert Claud was a member of the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission and Metropolitan Planning Organization, providing leadership as vice chairman and chairman; and

WHEREAS, Robert Claud has also served on the Western Tidewater Water Authority, the Western Tidewater Regional Jail Authority, the Hampton Roads Partnership, and the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance; and

WHEREAS, Robert Claud's service has extended to the state level, where he has represented the interests of the Hampton Roads area with great skill and diligence; and

WHEREAS, a founding member of the Virginia Coalition of High Growth Communities in 1998, Robert Claud was elected to the executive committee and was instrumental in uniting the coalition behind legislation affecting growth management; and

WHEREAS, a member of the Virginia Association of Counties, Robert Claud has served on the Development and Planning, Transportation, and Telecommunications and Utilities Steering Committees; and

WHEREAS, for 25 years, Robert Claud has served the citizens of Windsor, Isle of Wight, and Hampton Roads with admirable skill and dedication, representing their interests with strong and visionary leadership; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Robert C. Claud, Sr., on the occasion of his retirement from public service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert C. Claud, Sr., as an expression of the admiration, respect, and gratitude of the General Assembly.
