WHEREAS, Jean Folsom, a student at Yorktown High School in Arlington County, has excelled throughout her high school career; and

WHEREAS, a National Merit Commended Scholar, an Advanced Placement Scholar, and a member of the Principal's Leadership Council, Jean Folsom has published a scientific paper in the Journal of Groundwater; and

WHEREAS, Jean Folsom has won numerous scientific awards and competitions sponsored by, among many others, the National Groundwater Association, the Virginia Junior Academy of Science, the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair, the American Water Resources Association, and the Department of Environmental Quality; and

WHEREAS, the president of the Yorktown High School debate and speech team, Jean Folsom qualified for the metro-finals in the Washington/Arlington Catholic Forensics League and has won numerous debate competitions and debate and speech tournaments; and

WHEREAS, an accomplished musician, Jean Folsom is president of the Yorktown High School orchestra, is a principal cellist with the string orchestra, and has earned superior ratings, grade 6 (the highest level) as a member of the Yorktown Quartet and the Yorktown Trio; and

WHEREAS, Jean Folsom is a member of the Council for Christian Education at the Church of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she has also served as Sunday school teacher; and

WHEREAS, an outstanding and well-rounded student, Jean Folsom has compiled a peerless record of achievement at Yorktown High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Jean Folsom; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jean Folsom as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and best wishes.
