WHEREAS, Katie Suehs, a senior at Pocahontas High School in Tazewell County, was named the Virginia winner of the Wendy's High School Heisman Award; and

WHEREAS, the High School Heisman is given to a student who excels in athletics, in the classroom, and in the community; and

WHEREAS, Katie Suehs is the first Pocahontas High School student to win the prestigious High School Heisman; and

WHEREAS, Katie Suehs, one of the top two students academically at Pocahontas High School, is tied for the top grade point average in her class and is a four-sport athlete, competing in varsity basketball, volleyball, track, and tennis; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her outstanding record at Pocahontas High School, Katie Suehs devotes substantial time and energy to teaching Sunday school at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Princeton and to tutoring grade school students; and

WHEREAS, Katie Suehs has also been a hospital volunteer during the summer at Tender Mercies Ministries in Princeton and the Union Mission in Bluefield; and

WHEREAS, Katie Suehs has earned the respect of coaches and players throughout the Mountain Empire District, and her achievements in the classroom, on the field and court, and in the community have also been recognized; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Katie Suehs on her Wendy's Virginia High School Heisman Award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Katie Suehs as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for her outstanding accomplishments and best wishes for continued success.
