SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 148
Celebrating the life of Dr. Theodore R. Coots Brown, Sr.

WHEREAS, Dr. Theodore R. Coots Brown, Sr., a Richmond physician who practiced in the community for 47 years, died on January 16, 2004; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Dr. Brown graduated from Armstrong High School in 1944, from Virginia Union University in 1947, and from the Howard University Medical School in 1951; and

WHEREAS, a former medical director of the Hanover and Barrett Learning Centers, Dr. Brown was a member of the Richmond Medical Society, the Old Dominion Medical Society, and the Richmond Academy of Medicine; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Brown served his country in the armed forces for more than 30 years as a medical officer, retiring as commander of the 56th Station Hospital at the rank of full colonel; and

WHEREAS, during his nearly five decades as a physician, Dr. Brown earned the respect and affection of his patients and his countless friends, colleagues, and admirers in the Richmond community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby mourn the passing of a dedicated healer and community servant, Dr. Theodore R. Coots Brown, Sr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dr. Theodore R. Coots Brown, Sr., as an expression of the esteem in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
