Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 12.04, as amended, of Chapter 155 of the Acts of Assembly of 1962 is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 12.04. Compensation.

The compensation to be paid to each member shall be fixed by a majority vote of the council, provided that the annual compensation to be paid to any member shall not exceed the sum of $1,000 $4,000 for his or her services as such, and the annual compensation to be paid to the chairman of the school board shall not exceed the sum of $1,500 $5,000 for his or her services as such.
