HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 513
Commending the Lafayette High School girls' swimming team.

WHEREAS, after years of consistently being ranked among the top teams in the Commonwealth, the Lafayette High School swimming team, from the Williamsburg-James City County school district, broke through with its first state swimming and diving championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lafayette High School Rams won the Virginia High School League Group AA swimming and diving championship by compiling 267 points, 37 more than runner-up Tabb High School; and

WHEREAS, the performance of the Rams' relay teams was crucial to the team's success, as the 200-meter freestyle relay team--Hannah Davis, Tori Benton, Tilly Luzar, and Jennifer Johnson--won in state-record time; and

WHEREAS, the Rams' 200-meter medley relay team--Eva Linkenauger, Samantha Davis, Anna Linkenauger, and Jennifer Johnson--also won a state championship; and

WHEREAS, Anna Linkenauger performed well in individual events, capturing second place in the 200-meter individual medley and the 100-meter breaststroke, and Hannah Davis won the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle events; and

WHEREAS, Jennifer Johnson, Sarah Crockett and divers Jackie Campitell, Lauren Williams, and Kerrianna Clark added valuable points to the Rams' championship total; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant 2004 season of the Lafayette High School swimming team may prove to be the first of many, as 17 of the 21 members of the team are underclassmen; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Lafayette High School Rams on their unprecedented 2004 swimming season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Harold Baker as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on the championship performance of the Lafayette High School swimming team.
