049047268WHEREAS, Judge George E. Honts III, who served as judge of the 25th Circuit Court (Botetourt and Rockbridge) since July 1, 1983, has announced his retirement from the bench; and
WHEREAS, a native of Eagle Rock in Botetourt County, George Honts is a veteran of service in the United States Army Reserve and a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the Washington and Lee University School of Law; and
WHEREAS, Judge Honts served as a substitute judge in the general district courts of the 25th district beginning in 1972; and
WHEREAS, prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Honts was active in the community, serving as chair of the Industrial Development Authority for 13 years, beginning service at the inception of the board, and as a member of the board of visitors of Radford University; and
WHEREAS, Judge Honts served as Commissioner of Accounts for Botetourt County, on the Advisory Board of Virginia National Bank in Troutville, as vice president of the Bank of Botetourt, and on the board of directors of the Roanoke and Botetourt Telephone Company; and
WHEREAS, Judge Honts is a former partner in the firm of Carter, Roe, Emick, and Honts and is author of several books and genealogies centered on the history and prominent families of Botetourt County; and
WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished legal career, Judge Honts has served the citizens of the 25th Judicial Circuit with exemplary dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the law; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Judge George E. Honts III on the occasion of his retirement from the bench; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Judge George E. Honts III as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for his long and meritorious service to the citizens of the Commonwealth.
