2004 SESSION
WHEREAS, Nina K. Peace of Ashland, a former member of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors and a former judge of the Hanover Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, died on February 29, 2004; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., and Goucher College, Nina Peace earned her law degree from the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Nina Peace, who practiced law in Hanover County for 30 years, was elected in 1975 as Hanover County's first, and to date only, female member of the Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, Nina Peace served on the Hanover County Board of Supervisors for 16 years, was chairwoman in 1980 and vice chairwoman in 1985; and
WHEREAS, in 1990 Nina Peace was elected judge of the Hanover County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, where she served until 1996; and
WHEREAS, Nina Peace helped found Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) to provide young people with an advocate to help them with the Hanover County court system; and
WHEREAS, among her many community service activities, Nina Peace was a member of the Hanover Unit of the American Heart Association and Hanover Citizens for Sensible Growth; and
WHEREAS, a member of the Virginia Bar Association and the Washington, D.C. Bar Association, Nina Peace was a past president of the Hanover Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, in 1986 Nina Peace was named Outstanding Attorney of Virginia by the Virginia Women Attorneys Association and the Metropolitan Richmond Women's Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, a strong and passionate advocate for causes in which she believed, Nina Peace gave generously of her time, talent, and energy to the people of Hanover County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an exceptional citizen of Hanover County, Nina K. Peace; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Nina K. Peace as an expression of the respect in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
