WHEREAS, Sarah-Elizabeth Hurt of Vinton was named Virginia's Junior Miss on February 28, 2004, and will compete for the America's Junior Miss title; and

WHEREAS, in the Virginia's Junior Miss competition, held in Salem, contestants were judged based on a one-on-one interview and on their talent, poise, scholastic achievement, and fitness; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the Junior Miss pageant, Sarah-Elizabeth Hurt and the other contestants participated in a "Be Your Best Self" day camp at the Salem Public Library, which included a luncheon with the president of Roanoke College; and

WHEREAS, a senior at Roanoke Catholic School, Sarah-Elizabeth Hurt won scholarships worth $5,250 for winning the Junior Miss title and for her runner-up finish in the talent competition for her piano performance; and

WHEREAS, in June 2004, Sarah-Elizabeth Hurt will represent the Commonwealth for two weeks in Mobile, Alabama, where she will compete for the title of America's Junior Miss and a share of more than $200,000 in scholarships; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Sarah-Elizabeth Hurt on becoming Virginia's Junior Miss for 2004; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sarah-Elizabeth Hurt as an expression of the congratulations and best wishes of the General Assembly.
