Commending Ann Garrett.

WHEREAS, Ann Garrett, a government teacher at Bayside High School in Virginia Beach, won the District Veterans of Foreign Wars National Citizenship Education Teacher Award; and

WHEREAS, Ann Garrett has taught for 30 years at Bayside High School, promoting good government and love of country; and

WHEREAS, Ann Garrett is a cofounder of the court docent program, where students spend the day in court learning how the court system functions, and has written the procedure for the very successful citywide court docent program; and

WHEREAS, Ann Garrett works with her model judiciary group to promote understanding of the judicial system and to compete with other schools for the chance to appear before the Supreme Court of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Ann Garrett, who participates in the General Assembly's Teach The Teacher Program, is a passionate educator of the United States Constitution, focusing on the rights and responsibilities of citizens; and

WHEREAS, Ann Garrett has promoted active bipartisan student involvement in government through 25 years of campaigns and elections; and

WHEREAS, throughout her teaching career, Ann Garrett has established her reputation as a respected teacher who motivates and creates good citizens and future leaders; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Ann Garrett on receiving the District Veterans of Foreign Wars National Citizenship Education Teacher Award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ann Garrett as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for her outstanding contributions to the education of the young people of Virginia Beach.
