2004 SESSION
WHEREAS, Lynn C. Armentrout, a law-enforcement professional for nearly 40 years and since 1975 the sheriff of Warren County, retired in 2003; and
WHEREAS, a native of Oakton, Virginia, Lynn Armentrout moved with his family to Shenandoah County in 1954, where he graduated from Shenandoah County High School and attended Lord Fairfax Community College; and
WHEREAS, Lynn Armentrout joined the Front Royal Police Department in 1965, rising to the rank of sergeant before his election as sheriff of Warren County in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Lynn Armentrout served eight terms as sheriff of Warren County, making him the fourth longest-serving sheriff in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, among his initiatives during his tenure as sheriff, Lynn Armentrout started the D.A.R.E. program for the Warren County public schools, founded the Warren County Victim-Witness Program, organized the Warren County senior citizens CALL-IN Program, and was the cosponsor of the Front Royal-Warren County Crime Solvers; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his professional duties, Lynn Armentrout has been actively involved in his community, serving in leadership positions in the Front Royal Jaycees, coaching and administering Little League baseball and softball teams and youth soccer teams, and serving on the Warren County Mental Health Board and the board of the Front Royal-Warren County United Way; and
WHEREAS, over his long and distinguished career, Lynn Armentrout was cited and recognized repeatedly by such organizations as the American Legion, the Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce, the American Police Hall of Fame, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Virginia State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police; and
WHEREAS, Lynn Armentrout has devoted his entire professional life to serving the citizens of Front Royal and Warren County, and his sterling record over nearly four decades sets a high standard for his successors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lynn C. Armentrout on the completion of an exemplary career of service to the citizens of Front Royal and Warren County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lynn C. Armentrout as an expression of the admiration, respect, and gratitude of the General Assembly.
