WHEREAS, R. DuVal Dickinson, with the loving support of his wife, Anne Dawideit Dickinson, has spent his life as a community leader in the service of others; and
WHEREAS, demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to public service, R. DuVal Dickinson served as the president of the Spotsylvania Service Authority from 1964 to 1977, as a director of the Tri-County Soil and Water Conservation Commission from 1948 to 1977, and as a member of the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Commission from 1965 to 1976; and
WHEREAS, R. DuVal Dickinson served as president of the Fredericksburg Area Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Governor's Regional Economic Development Advisory Council for District 12 and the Special Advisory Commission on Mandated Health Insurance Benefits; and
WHEREAS, R. DuVal Dickinson was chairman of the Board for the Virginia Agribusiness Council and president of the Virginia Farm and Industrial Equipment Dealers Association; and
WHEREAS, R. DuVal Dickinson has provided valuable guidance and support as a board member for numerous organizations, including Mary Washington Hospital, Virginia Diocesan Homes, Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge, and Hospice Support Care, Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, in 1975 R. DuVal Dickinson took his volunteerism to the international stage by traveling to Tanzania with the Episcopal Bishop of Virginia seeking`` ways to improve farming methods; and
WHEREAS, a member of the Ruritan Club since 1946, R. DuVal Dickinson was the charter president of the Chancellor Ruritan Club in 1953, actively supporting its many charitable activities for many years; and
WHEREAS, R. DuVal Dickinson served as president of Virginia's oldest fair, the Fredericksburg Agricultural Fair, and still delivers Meals-on-Wheels; and
WHEREAS, showing great spiritual commitment, R. DuVal Dickinson faithfully attends Trinity Episcopal Church, serving the congregation as Sunday School superintendent and warden; and
WHEREAS, R. DuVal Dickinson has more than fulfilled his civic responsibilities by volunteering his time and efforts in support of many state and national leaders, including presidents, governors, senators, congressmen and others, and has served as chairman of the Spotsylvania County Republican Committee for a decade; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate R. DuVal Dickinson, an outstanding Virginian, on his remarkable lifetime of service and leadership to his community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to R. DuVal Dickinson as an expression of the admiration of the General Assembly.
