2004 SESSION
WHEREAS, Lillian Bradford Croy of Vienna, a dedicated and creative member of the Church of the Holy Comforter and founder of the church-sponsored thrift shop, Pennywise, died on January 16, 2004; and
WHEREAS, a native of the Eastern Shore, Lillian Croy moved to Northern Virginia at a young age and was a dedicated member of the Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna for more than 50 years; and
WHEREAS, demonstrating unusual initiative and entrepreneurial spirit, in 1961 Lillian Croy founded a thrift shop with the dual purpose of raising funds for the church and helping the community; and
WHEREAS, more than 40 years later, the thrift shop, now named Pennywise, continues to operate in Vienna, where it serves as a means of fellowship and community service for its staff; and
WHEREAS, Lillian Croy's Pennywise thrift shop raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Church of the Holy Comforter, funding its various charitable enterprises; and
WHEREAS, a former member of the Fairfax County School Board, Lillian Croy was also an active and successful quilter; and
WHEREAS, for more than 50 years the parishioners of the Church of the Holy Comforter and the citizens of Vienna benefited greatly from the spirit and energy of Lillian Croy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an exceptional citizen of Vienna, Lillian Bradford Croy; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lillian Bradford Croy as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
