WHEREAS, Joseph M. Nichols has been a Virginia Capitol Police Officer since September 15, 1998; and

WHEREAS, Officer Nichols is also a sergeant first class in the United States Army Military Police with 13 years of active duty in the Army and 10 years in the Reserves; and

WHEREAS, while on active duty, Officer Nichols was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Fort Hood, Texas, and in Korea and Panama; and

WHEREAS, since joining the Virginia Capitol Police, Officer Nichols has been called to active duty three times, the first in 1999 to serve in Germany with the 88th Military Police Company; and

WHEREAS, in 2001 following the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, Officer Nichols was deployed to the Radford Arsenal until August of 2002; and

WHEREAS, in February 2003, Officer Nichols was again recalled to serve with the 88th Military Police Company in Kuwait, returning in January 2004; and

WHEREAS, Officer Nichols' dedication to serving his country is meritorious, and his experience is a reminder of the personal and professional sacrifices made by thousands of military reservists to answer the call of duty; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Officer Joseph M. Nichols on his dedicated service to the United States Army and his loyalty to the Virginia Capitol Police; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Officer Joseph M. Nichols as an expression of the admiration and gratitude of the General Assembly.
