Commending the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce.

WHEREAS, the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce, since its founding in 1954, has played a vital role in making southeastern Fairfax County a great place to live, learn, work, do business, and visit; and

WHEREAS, working with local, state, and federal elected officials, the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber is an effective advocate for the local business community on a wide array of public policy issues affecting business, including economic development, transportation, and public safety; and

WHEREAS, recognizing the significance of tourism to the local economy, the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber assists visitors with information on local historic sites, hotels, restaurants, services, and shopping opportunities and was a key participant in community-based efforts that led to the United States Army's decision to build its National Museum of the United States Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, understanding the importance of education to a strong community, the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber gives scholarship grants to six graduating high school students each year; and

WHEREAS, showing a long-term commitment to community service, the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber supervises from among its members a weekly volunteer Meals on Wheels delivery route to bring a warm meal and a friendly visit to home-bound members of the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for the Chamber's many contributions to the community.
