2004 SESSION
047935480WHEREAS, the Lafayette High School field hockey team, from the Williamsburg-James City County school district, won the 2003 Virginia High School League Group A/AA state field hockey championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lafayette High School Rams finished the 2003 season with a record of 19-4 and won the first state championship for a girls' team in the history of Lafayette High School; and
WHEREAS, in a tense state final against perennial power Chancellor High School from Spotsylvania County, the Lafayette Rams won in the second sudden-death overtime by a score of 1-0; and
WHEREAS, playing exceptional defense and relying on outstanding work by goalkeeper Shannon Richardson to keep the high-scoring Chancellor team scoreless, the Rams won on a title-winning goal by Kellie Jenkins 84 seconds into the second overtime; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant 2003 season of the Lafayette High School field hockey team is a tribute to the skill and perseverance of the athletes, the leadership of Head Coach Pat Thompson and her coaching staff, and the support of the students and faculty of Lafayette High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Lafayette High School Rams on their unprecedented 2003 field hockey season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Pat Thompson as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on the championship performance of the Lafayette High School field hockey team.
