Commending Charlie Whetzel.

WHEREAS, Charlie Whetzel, an award-winning employee of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, retired on July 1, 2002, following 35 years of outstanding service; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Whetzel joined the Department of Motor Vehicles in 1967 as a driver's license examiner at the Harrisonburg Customer Service Center; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Whetzel was promoted to Harrisonburg branch office manager in 1975 and served in that position until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, in 1988 Charlie Whetzel was named Employee of the Year, the very first such award given by the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles; and

WHEREAS, during his career, Charlie Whetzel was the recipient of 19 letters of commendation from customers, and the Harrisonburg branch office, under his leadership, received 13 more letters of commendation; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Whetzel was named the Employee of the Season in the spring of 1993 and was the Commissioner's Cup winner for the Harrisonburg Customer Service Center in 1995 and 1999; and

WHEREAS, throughout his 35 years of service to the Commonwealth, Charlie Whetzel established an enviable record of achievement and dedication to public service; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Charlie Whetzel on his many years of meritorious service to the citizens of Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charlie Whetzel as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his contributions to Virginia and best wishes for a long and fulfilling retirement.
