WHEREAS, First Sergeant Taylor V. Blanton of Caroline County, a 23-year veteran of service with the Virginia Department of State Police, died on October 16, 2003; and

WHEREAS, a native of Caroline County, Taylor Blanton graduated from Caroline County High School in 1975 and five years later fulfilled a childhood dream by becoming a Virginia State Police trooper; and

WHEREAS, Taylor Blanton graduated from the 69th basic session at the State Police Academy on December 19, 1980, earning a reputation among his classmates for perseverance and determination; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Blanton was assigned to Hanover and Caroline Counties before his promotion in 1988 to Special Agent with the Bureau of Criminal Investigations; and

WHEREAS, Taylor Blanton was again promoted to Assistant Special Agent/First Sergeant and assigned to the auto theft unit before transferring to supervise the newly formed computer crimes unit, where he served until his death; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career with the Virginia State Police, Taylor Blanton earned respect from his colleagues and superiors for his energy, talent, determination, and devotion to a career he loved; and

WHEREAS, during his too-short life, Taylor Blanton established an exemplary record of service to his community, the Virginia Department of State Police, and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the untimely loss of a skilled and dedicated public servant, First Sergeant Taylor V. Blanton; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of First Sergeant Taylor V. Blanton as an expression of the General Assembly's profound sorrow on his passing and great respect for his memory.
