047990500WHEREAS, Chris Maher of Fairfax County, the owner of Falls Church Motors, was honored as the 2002 Virginia Quality Dealer of the Year by the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association is a 1,050-member organization that has represented independent automobile dealers for more than 40 years; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Quality Dealer of the Year award annually recognizes an independent dealer for his or her contributions to the industry, community and professional service, and adherence to a code of ethics; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Northern Virginia, Chris Maher purchased an automobile repair business at the age of 20, managed its expansion from one location and one employee to three locations and 20 employees, and consolidated his operations in the late 1990s at Falls Church Motors; and
WHEREAS, Chris Maher is a past president and chairman of the board of the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association, representing 1,050 dealers, and has chaired numerous association committees; and
WHEREAS, Chris Maher is active in numerous local civic and charitable organizations, including Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Virginia Special Olympics, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Virginia Association of the Deaf, the Children's National Medical Center, and little league baseball; and
WHEREAS, Chris Maher's excellence as a businessman and his dedication to the automobile industry, his community, and the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association make him an outstanding recipient of this prestigious state award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Chris Maher on his selection as the 2002 Virginia Quality Dealer of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chris Maher as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and best wishes.
