2004 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Virginia Technology Student Association is the only student organization that focuses specifically on students enrolled in technology education; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Technology Student Association includes educators, parents, students, and business leaders who believe in the need for a technologically literate society and are working hard to achieve that goal; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Technology Student Association is composed of more than 16,000 high school, middle school, and elementary school students throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, originally established in 1978 as the American Industrial Arts Student Association, the Technology Student Association changed its name in 1988 to reflect the commitment to the dynamic field of technology and the future; and
WHEREAS, Virginia is one of the founding states within the National Technology Student Association organization, whose motto is “Learning to live in a technical world”; and
WHEREAS, encouraged by the Technology Student Association, students meet with business and industry personnel, learn about resources and developments in order to acquire technological understanding, consumer knowledge and competencies that lead to responsible citizenship and the productive use of leisure time; and
WHEREAS, students demonstrate their understanding and competence through leadership and fellowship activities, and they plan and implement projects that contribute to an improvement in or service to the school or community; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Technology Student Association is "to prepare students for the challenges of a dynamic world by promoting technological literacy, leadership, and problem solving, resulting in personal growth and opportunities"; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Virginia Technology Student Association for its worthy efforts to advance technological education in Virginia's schools; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia Technology Student Association as an expression of the appreciation and best wishes of the General Assembly.
