047929488WHEREAS, Thomas L. Hoy, the golf coach and boys' tennis coach at Mills Godwin High School in Henrico County, compiled an unparalleled record of success during his 24-year tenure; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Halifax County High School and Hampden-Sydney College, Tom Hoy began his career at Mills Godwin High School when the school opened in 1980; and
WHEREAS, the chairman of the mathematics department for the past 20 years, Tom Hoy has been honored for his teaching excellence with the Gilman Award in 1992 and the Henrico County Teacher of the Year award in 1989-1990; and
WHEREAS, under Tom Hoy, the Godwin golf team has compiled a record of 365 wins, 44 losses, and 9 ties while winning 17 Colonial District championships, 8 Central Region titles, and 4 Virginia High School League state golf championships; and
WHEREAS, Tom Hoy's Eagles boys' tennis teams have been even more successful, winning 337 matches while losing only 43 and capturing 16 district, 16 regional, and 11 state championships; and
WHEREAS, Tom Hoy's remarkable total of 15 Group AAA state championships demonstrates his ability to bring out the best in his players and to sustain two excellent athletic programs over many years; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia High School League honored Tom Hoy with its Regional Award of Merit in October 2003; and
WHEREAS, Tom Hoy's astonishing record of success at Mills Godwin places him at the front rank among high school coaches in the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Coach Thomas L. Hoy on his extraordinary record of achievements at Mills Godwin High School; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thomas L. Hoy as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his accomplishments and best wishes for continued success.
