On the death of Louis Vincent Genuario, Sr.

WHEREAS, Louis Vincent Genuario, Sr., of Alexandria, the owner of home building and development companies and a leader in providing affordable housing to the residents of Northern Virginia, died on January 10, 2004; and

WHEREAS, a native of Norwalk, Connecticut, Louis Genuario served in the China-Burma-India Theatre of World War II in the United States Army Air Corps, then entered the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1950; and

WHEREAS, sent to Korea following graduation, Louis Genuario earned a Silver Star for bravery and was seriously wounded during the Pusan Perimeter Defense and Naktong River Offensive; and

WHEREAS, after recovering from his wounds, Louis Genuario transferred to the Army Corps of Engineers, earned a master's degree in civil engineering from Harvard University, and retired from the military in 1966; and

WHEREAS, in 1970 Louis Genuario founded his own home building companies and became a leader in the Northern Virginia housing industry; and

WHEREAS, Louis Genuario served as president of the Alexandria Building Association and was the recipient of the 1998 Builder of the Year Award from the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association; and

WHEREAS, Louis Genuario was an officer of the Williamsburg Manor North Civic Association, served as president of the Holland Meadows PTA, and was active in the Fort Hunt High School PTA; and

WHEREAS, appointed to the Fairfax County Affordable Dwelling Unit Advisory Board for six years, Louis Genuario also served on the Fairfax County Disability Advisory Board, the City of Alexandria Committee on Affordable Housing, and the board of the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation; and

WHEREAS, a vice president of Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services and a former member of the board of Route 1 Corridor Housing, Louis Genuario helped establish the first homeless shelter in Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, Louis Genuario leaves an enduring legacy of service to his Northern Virginia community and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a fine Virginian, Louis Vincent Genuario, Sr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Louis Vincent Genuario, Sr., as an expression of the respect in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
