HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 30
Commending the Rye Cove High School girls' volleyball team.

WHEREAS, the Rye Cove High School girls' volleyball team ended years of frustration and close calls by winning the 2003 Virginia High School League Group A state volleyball championship; and

WHEREAS, the Rye Cove Lady War Eagles, from Scott County, had played in the state championship match five times without capturing the elusive state championship; and

WHEREAS, the 2003 Lady War Eagles overcame that history by defeating a team from Rappahannock High School, 15–13, 15–3, to win Rye Cove's first state volleyball state championship; and

WHEREAS, the Rye Cove Lady War Eagles earned the added honor of becoming the first Region D volleyball team to win the state; and

WHEREAS, Rye Cove's victory, and its outstanding record of 25–2, were helped substantially by the enthusiastic support of the Lady War Eagles' fans, many of whom made the trip from Scott County to the Shenandoah Valley to attend the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, the historic success of the 2003 Lady War Eagles from Rye Cove High School is a tribute to the talent, dedication, spirit, and teamwork of the athletes and the leadership of the coaching staff; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the 2003 Lady War Eagles of Rye Cove High School on their 2003 Group A state volleyball championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Donnie Qualls in honor of the exceptional performance of the 2003 Rye Cove High School girls' volleyball team.
