2004 SESSION
WHEREAS, the golf team of J. J. Kelly High School capped a successful season by capturing the 2003 Virginia High School League Group A state golf championship; and
WHEREAS, the J. J. Kelly Indians returned to Wise County with the first state golf championship in the school's history; and
WHEREAS, the golfers of J. J. Kelly High School added another distinction in shooting a two-day total of 610, the best 36-hole score in Virginia High School League Group A state tournament history; and
WHEREAS, appearing for the fourth consecutive year in the Group A state tournament, the J. J. Kelly Indians won in dominant fashion, defeating the second-place team from Galax High School by 10 strokes; and
WHEREAS, the Indians' team depth was crucial to their success, with excellent performances from all five championship golfers contributing to the team's success; and
WHEREAS, Coach Lana Prater's Indians, who pursued the goal of winning the state title after their three earlier appearances in the tournament, enjoyed an historic 2003 golf season; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly salute the golf team from J. J. Kelly High School on its extraordinary 2003 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Lana Prater in recognition of the championship performance of the J. J. Kelly High School Indians.
