HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 299
Commending the work of the Council on Virginia's Future.

WHEREAS, the 2003 General Assembly passed House Bill 2097, establishing the Council on Virginia's Future to help the Commonwealth focus on long-term issues, improve the framework for decision-making, and allow public officials, business leaders, and citizens to become better informed on key challenges and opportunities facing Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Council is charged with developing a roadmap for Virginia's future that will provide a collective vision for the Commonwealth that is easy to understand as well as representative of Virginians; and

WHEREAS, since July 1, 2003, the Council has met several times to develop a preliminary vision and has established workgroups to analyze each priority area; and

WHEREAS, during its deliberation, the Council has become aware that the development of the roadmap is a long-term process and will require continued work and input in 2004 and beyond; and

WHEREAS, the Council is working towards the establishment of the "balanced accountability scorecard" by November 2004 to track key measures that identify state productivity, current performance, and long-term objectives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly accept the Interim Report from the Council on Virginia's Future detailing the progress of the Council and that the Council be encouraged to continue its efforts; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Council on Virginia's Future as an expression of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of its membership.
