2004 SESSION
047930488WHEREAS, the 2003 Mills Godwin High School boys' soccer team won the Virginia High School League Group AAA state soccer championship, capping a perfect season of 22 victories and no losses; and
WHEREAS, the Godwin Eagles outscored their regular season competition by 61 goals to four, and including the playoffs, enjoyed a goal differential of 90 to 10; and
WHEREAS, the Mills Godwin High School boys' soccer team was recognized at the end of the season as the top team in the nation by three national organizations, including Soccer America magazine, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and Student Sports.com; and
WHEREAS, the Godwin Eagles have won 10 Colonial District titles, four regional crowns, and the 2003 state championship, the first Central Region team to win the state title; and
WHEREAS, the Eagles defeated West Springfield High School, Culpeper High School, and Lake Braddock High School on their way to the state championship; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Mills Godwin boys' soccer team carried a cumulative grade point average of over 3.1, and nine players earned Academic All-District and All-Region honors; and
WHEREAS, Adam Cristman was named All-District, All-Region, All-State, and state Player of the Year; Brad Knighton was All-District, All-Region, and All-State; Tyler Pegues was All-District and All-Region; and Trey Thornton was All-District; and
WHEREAS, the Eagles were led by Head Coach Robert Lotze, Assistant Coach Mike Ryan, and senior captains, Adam Cristman and Brad Knighton; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Eagles from Mills Godwin High School on their undefeated state championship season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Robert Lotze and Assistant Coach Mike Ryan as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the flawless performance of the 2003 Mills Godwin High School boys' soccer team.
