2004 SESSION
WHEREAS, the 2003 Mills Godwin High School girls' tennis team won the Virginia High School League Group AAA state tennis championship for the third consecutive year; and
WHEREAS, the state title is the fifth for the Mills Godwin Eagles, who were dominant in almost all of their matches during a season in which they won 16 matches and lost only one; and
WHEREAS, the Mills Godwin Eagles have won four consecutive district championships, five consecutive regional titles, and three consecutive state crowns; and
WHEREAS, of their 15 matches against Virginia competition, the Eagles won 12 by shutout, and in the state tournament, the Eagles won all three of their matches by 5–0 or 6–0 scores; and
WHEREAS, the Mills Godwin Eagles defeated Thomas Jefferson High School of Alexandria, First Colonial High School of Virginia Beach, and Frank Cox High School of Virginia Beach to capture the state title; and
WHEREAS, all 13 members of the team are honor roll students, and each has a cumulative grade point average over 3.0; and
WHEREAS, seven Eagle players were named to the Academic All-District and All-Region teams, and the team grade point average is 3.87; and
WHEREAS, Lindsey Howard and Kate Harrington advanced to the Group AAA state singles tournament, and Lindsey Howard finished as the runner-up; and
WHEREAS, Kate Harrington and Lindsey Howard teamed to win their second consecutive doubles crown with a 17–0 record; and
WHEREAS, the Mills Godwin Eagles were led by Head Coach Mark Seidenberg and Assistant Coach Mary Bruner and by seniors, Adrian Edwards and Kate Harrington; and
WHEREAS, with juniors Caitlin Bailey, Lauren Flanary, Lindsey Howard, Lauren Hrobuchak, Nora Kennedy, Lindsey Pantele, and Erin Vasquez and sophomores Lauren Cox, Shreya Desai, Jackie Holt, and Amanda Schubert, the Eagles appear to be well-positioned for a run at a fourth title in 2004; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Eagles from Mills Godwin High School on their third consecutive Group AAA state tennis championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Mark Seidenberg and Assistant Coach Mary Bruner in honor of the sustained excellence of the Mills Godwin High School girls' tennis team.
