WHEREAS, the Virginia Pep Band, the student pep band at the University of Virginia has served the University and the Commonwealth for 30 years, striving to entertain its wide-ranging audience with joyful music and good-natured humor; and
WHEREAS, this diverse group of dedicated students and members of the Charlottesville community have offered continued enthusiastic support to student athletics at the University of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Charlottesville and Albemarle County area has benefited from the Virginia Pep Band's performances at such events as the United Way Day of Caring, the Charlottesville 10-Miler, the Memory Walk, and the Charlottesville AIDS Walk; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Pep Band has illustrated the ideals of student self-governance held dear by the founder of the University, Thomas Jefferson; and
WHEREAS, the students in the Virginia Pep Band have tried not only to support the student-athletes at the University of Virginia but also to ensure that all students of the University are represented by a band as distinctive and original as the institution it serves; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Pep Band has been a unique and valued tradition in the history of the University of Virginia and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Virginia Pep Band on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia Pep Band as an expression of the congratulations and best wishes of the General Assembly.
