2004 SESSION
047895204WHEREAS, the Spartans of West Springfield High School won the 2003 Virginia High School League Group AAA state cheerleading championship, the first team from the Northern Region to win the title in the seven-year history of the championship; and
WHEREAS, the West Springfield High School Spartans placed second in district and regional competition, saving their best effort for the biggest stage; and
WHEREAS, in the state championship competition, the Spartans overcame an injury to a team member and the resulting change in their routine to capture their first state crown; and
WHEREAS, team captains Kelly Beyer, Ali Dodson, Christy Gudely, and Derry Steer led Head Coach Rita Robinson's Spartans; and
WHEREAS, the Spartan cheerleaders included Mary Grace Andrews, Meghan Barnwell, Luisanna Carrera, Emily Carlson, Julia Cole, Carly Dodson, Jackie Garcia, Jill Hannes, Kira Hinrichs, Tricia Irvine, Shannon Ingersoll, Heidi Klynsma, Lisa Leonard, Melissa Leonard, Kristen McLain, Summer Renner, Allison Smith, Tina Wajda, and Kristen Webbers; and
WHEREAS, West Springfield's surprising triumph was a tribute to the leadership of Head Coach Rita Robinson and her assistants, Betsy Wachendorf and Laura Doster, the talent and hard work of the cheerleaders, and the enthusiastic support of the parents, students, and faculty of West Springfield High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Spartans of West Springfield High School on their exceptional 2003 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Rita Robinson as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the West Springfield High School cheerleading team.
