Commending the Atlee High School girls' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the Raiders of Atlee High School capped a perfect season by capturing the 2003 Virginia High School League Group AAA state girls' basketball championship; and

WHEREAS, the Atlee Raiders, who finished with a record of 30-0, earned their state title with a disciplined and courageous performance against Indian River High School of Chesapeake; and

WHEREAS, the 2003 Raiders, from Hanover County, won their berth in the state final game with a tense 34-29 victory over Hampton High School in the state semifinals; and

WHEREAS, facing a favored, taller, and undefeated team from Indian River, the Atlee girls overcame an injury to their team leader and leading scorer and an eight-point deficit to win the first girls' basketball championship in Atlee High School history; and

WHEREAS, led by three seniors, the Atlee girls' basketball team played with great intensity, spirit, and teamwork throughout an undefeated season; and

WHEREAS, Atlee's triumph is a tribute to the leadership of Head Coach Curt Kassab and his staff, the talent and hard work of the players, and the enthusiastic support of the students, faculty, and supporters of Atlee High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Raiders of Atlee High School on their flawless 2003 basketball season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Curt Kassab as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the Atlee High School girls' basketball team.
