HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 216
Commending the Hanover County Sheriff's Office.

WHEREAS, the Hanover County Sheriff's Office has earned national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement; and

WHEREAS, in 1998 the Hanover County Sheriff's Office earned state accreditation and worked diligently to meet the demanding standards of national accreditation; and

WHEREAS, following documentation of the office's adherence to the national standards, a three-member team spent five days reviewing the policies and procedures of the Hanover County Sheriff's Office to determine if they met the 444 national standards; and

WHEREAS, by winning national accreditation, the Hanover County Sheriff's Office earns the added distinction of being one of only two law-enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth to hold both state and national accreditation; and

WHEREAS, this national honor reaffirms the commitment to professionalism of the 177 officers of the Hanover County Sheriff's Office; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Hanover County Sheriff's Office on earning this rare and prestigious national recognition; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sheriff V. Stuart Cook in honor of the exceptional performance of the Hanover County Sheriff's Office.
