Commending Allie Pettigrew.

WHEREAS, Allie Pettigrew, a resident of Chesterfield County and a student at Clover Hill High School in Midlothian, received a 2003 Prudential Spirit of Community Award which confers national recognition for exemplary volunteer service; and

WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

WHEREAS, Allie Pettigrew will receive from Prudential an engraved bronze Distinguished Finalist medallion; and

WHEREAS, Allie Pettigrew was cited for compiling a book of poems, letters, and songs expressing gratitude to America's armed forces and for sending 2,000 copies of the book to military personnel on the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt; and

WHEREAS, the success of the Commonwealth, the strength of Virginia’s communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure on the dedication of young people like Allie Pettigrew, who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Allie Pettigrew on her recognition as one of America’s finest young volunteers; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Allie Pettigrew as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for her outstanding dedication to community service and her ongoing commitment to helping her fellow citizens.
