047811352WHEREAS, the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) is the nation's largest and most influential Greek-American organization; and
WHEREAS, AHEPA is devoted to the promotion of Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, and family and individual excellence; and
WHEREAS, A. Jack Georgalas, a 45-year member of AHEPA's Woodrow Wilson Chapter 341 in Newport News, was elected Supreme President of AHEPA for 2003–2004; and
WHEREAS, a native of New York, A. Jack Georgalas is a veteran of service in the United States Marine Corps and is a graduate of the University of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, a successful businessman, A. Jack Georgalas is the chief executive officer of a leading beverage distributor and importer and is the owner of several real estate companies; and
WHEREAS, in keeping with the ideals of the organization he leads, A. Jack Georgalas is a generous contributor of his time and talents to a variety of community service organizations, including the United Way of Virginia, Peninsula, the Virginia Peninsula Economic Development Authority, and Christopher Newport University; and
WHEREAS, A. Jack Georgalas serves as parish council president of the Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Newport News and has held numerous leadership positions in the church; and
WHEREAS, A. Jack Georgalas has served AHEPA as chairman of the Cyprus and Hellenic Affairs Committee, as Chairman of the Board, and as Supreme Vice President; and
WHEREAS, A. Jack Georgalas' election as Supreme President of AHEPA caps an outstanding career of service to his community and to the mission of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend A. Jack Georgalas on his election as Supreme President of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to A. Jack Georgalas as an expression of the congratulations and best wishes of the General Assembly.
