Agreed to by the Senate, January 22, 2004

WHEREAS, the Floyd County High School girls' cross country team won the 2003 Virginia High School League Group A state cross country championship; and

WHEREAS, to win their first state championship, the Floyd County Lady Buffs had to defeat the favored Region B champions from Central High School of Woodstock; and

WHEREAS, the Floyd County runners used the same strategy that had worked all season--run in a pack--to defeat Central of Woodstock by 13 points and capture the state title; and

WHEREAS, led by Head Coach Dawn Weeks, the Lady Buffs elevated team victory over individual accomplishment, and by running as a team experienced unprecedented success; and

WHEREAS, three Floyd County runners--Hanna Traynham, Stephine Link, and Mira Walker--placed in the top 15 in the state meet and earned all-state honors; and

WHEREAS, equally important to the team victory were the performances of Kara Rogers, who placed 28th, and Morgan Weeks, who finished 33rd; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant 2003 season of the Floyd County High School girls' cross country team is a tribute to the skill and perseverance of the athletes, the leadership of the coaching staff, and the support of the students and faculty of Floyd County High School; now, therefore, be it
